Tracking

Tracking provides the opportunity to know where an EMS item is. Ideally, an item is tracked from the moment that the customer entrusts the EMS item to a postal operator through to the time of the final EMS item delivery at its destination.

Today, the EMS customer wants not only to know where the item is, but also wants this information as fast as possible. Electronic tracking has become the sign of quality and trust within the EMS service.

Electronic tracking has become an integral part of the EMS service. Sometimes, a customer chooses a particular operator based on the operator's ability to track an EMS item.

Due to its importance, EMS operators should fully track all EMS items and exchange tracking information with their partners. Exchanging tracking information with partners brings many benefits as it provides important information to help Posts improve customer service, internal statistics, accounting and quality of service measurements. That is why, in 2007, members changed the EMS Cooperative Statutes to make tracking a membership requirement.

Computer systems automate the tracking process and exchange tracking information between EMS partners through the networks. Currently, EMS tracking messages are sent through two networks, the GXS and POST*Net.
